Maracuja – Passionflower

Maracuja – Passionfruit

The maracuja is also known with the nickname “passion fruit”; although this name brings to mind aphrodisiac properties it actually originates from some elements that make up the flower and that remind us of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Looking at the corolla of the flower it is easy to associate its image with a crown of thorns while its pistils instead remind of the nails of the crucifixion.

Maracuja is an excellent source of energy and vitamins.

Maracuja has the size of a small lemon and is characterized by a very pleasant scent. The pulp of the maracuja, very rich in small seeds inside, has at the same time a sour and sweet taste.
